Valais Blacknose sheep landing in the UK . We were the first people in the UK to import the Valais Blacknose sheep from Switzerland. We spent 2 years trying to find a breeder and working to get them here. After a long struggle and a lot of hard work and red tape our 27 sheep 25 ewes and 2 rams arrived on 14th Febuary 2014.

The breed is also known by some other names such as Blacknosed Swiss, Visp, Visperschaf, Walliser Schwarznaseschaf and Wallis Blacknose. It is a coarsewooled breed and raised mainly for meat. The Valais Blacknose sheep originate in the Valais region of Switzerland. They are a dual-purpose breed, raised for meat and wool. They are unique to the Upper Valais and are well adapted to the harsh mountain conditions, being extremely hardy, prolific and frugal. Valais Blacknose Sheep are hardy, native alpine sheepand are useful animals for conservation grazing (in appropriate climates). They are a large, dual-purpose breedwith valuable meat and wool.

The sheep are extremely friendly and seem to love us as much as we love them. Therefore, we are not surprised they have been called the cutest sheep in the world! There are no known full-blooded Valais Blacknose Sheep in the United States, although a number of people are reportedly working on creating a U.S. breed society and developing a breed registry. Laurel Highland Farm, in Cogan Station, Pennsylvania, was expecting its first 50 percent Valais crossbred lambs to be born in April.

The black nose should be centered and it is preferred that it extend up to the eyes. The ears are also black and extend up to the base of the head. There should be black colorations on the ankles and on the front knees.
