King Midas is attested as an historical figure in both Greek and Assyrian sources. At least two major kings by that name ruled the kingdom of Phrygia in Central Turkey, one in the 8th century BC and the other in the 6th century BC.
King Midas was a wealthy king who loved gold and believed that wealth should only lie in the hands of kings. There are two versions of his myth. The first version is that one day, his men found Silenus, Dionysus’ mentor, wandering around in the woods after a night of drinking.
He threw his arms round Silenus' neck. He kissed him on both cheeks and he turned to King Midas and he said, 'I will grant you one wish, one wish and one wish only. This is a story from Greek Mythology. Once upon a time, there lived a king named Midas. He had one beautiful daughter. The king used to love her daughter a lot. King Midas was very fond of gold.
